Cremation
Cremation is by far the most popular type of funeral in the UK, with the majority of families choosing a ceremony in the chapel at the crematorium but a service can be held in a church or other venue before travelling to the crematorium for the cremation. Whether you want the service to be religious or non-religious is, of course, your choice. A religious service will be conducted by a minister from a specific faith or religion whereas a non-religious ceremony will be led by a civil celebrant or a humanist. Your local branch of Mears Family Funerals can help make arrangements for the type of service you would like to honour the memory of your loved one.

What to expect at a cremation service
A cremation service usually lasts between 35 to 45 minutes, depending on the crematorium chosen. Extra time may be booked if required - please let your funeral arranger know if you think you will need additional time. The service can include a number of hymns or songs that mean something to you, eulogies and readings and music can be played as you enter and exit the chapel. Some crematoriums have audio visual facilities for photo tributes and live streaming of the service for those who are unable to attend. At the end of the service the coffin is usually obscured from view for mourners to pay their final respects before the cremation. Mears Family Funerals can assist you in every step of the funeral and cremation arrangements so please call or email us about any queries you may have.
