Mears Family Funerals is proud to offer a Basic Funeral Service, designed to align with the high standards and specification set out in the National Association of Funeral Directors’ Code of Practice. Our commitment is to ensure that a dignified and respectful final farewell remains accessible to all families, regardless of specific preferences or economic considerations.
This service is a streamlined, yet complete, funeral option and, as such, operates with a restricted set of inclusions to maintain its affordability. We wish to provide absolute clarity to families from the outset. Please be aware that the specification for the Basic Funeral Service explicitly excludes: embalming and viewing and limousines.
Our commitment to transparent pricing is paramount. Our total cost for the Basic Funeral Service is £3,000 - this excludes Third-Party Disbursements. These are costs paid to external parties on your behalf and typically include the cremation or burial fees, officiant fees.We will provide you with a detailed written estimate outlining both our charges and the anticipated disbursements before you commit to any arrangements.
For £3,000 we will:
Provide care of your loved one at our local Care facilities.
Prepare the body for the coffin in a respectful and dignified manner.
Provide a quality English style coffin with handles and engraved name plate.
Place any personal items you send us in the coffin (please ask for guidance).
Provide a hearse with Funeral Director and attendant bearers direct to the crematorium or cemetery.
Funeral date and time at our discretion, Monday to Thursday only. We will try to be as flexible possible.
Provide in person, telephone and/or email support to complete all required paperwork.

We strive to make the process of arranging the Basic Funeral as straightforward and supportive as possible during what is undoubtedly a difficult time. You are most welcome to schedule an appointment to visit any of our local Mears Family Funerals branches. Our experienced Funeral Directors will guide you through every step with compassion and expertise. Alternatively, we recognise that a visit may not be possible or preferred and offer a remote arrangement service. We will coordinate the entire process via telephone and support you by emailing or securely posting all the essential paperwork. For your convenience, we will pre-fill the vast majority of official forms, leaving only a few places that require your signature. Throughout the process, our team will provide full, dedicated assistance to ensure all documents are completed accurately, promptly, and in full compliance with all statutory requirements.
