Burial
Mears Family Funerals can help you arrange the funeral service and a burial at your chosen cemetery, churchyard or burial ground, whether you have an existing family grave or need to purchase a grave. Most cemeteries have a chapel where the service can take place, but you want the service to take place in a church or other venue that has meaning for you and your family. If you have a family grave we will arrange for it to be reopened before the burial. We can also assist with the commissioning of a new headstone [hyperlink to headstone range] or full memorial [hyperlink to full memorial range] which can be erected approximately 12 months after the interment date, or the addition of an inscription to an existing memorial. We can also arrange for an existing memorial to be removed from the grave to allow the interment to take place.
What to expect at a burial
On the day of the funeral, mourners may gather at the cemetery awaiting the arrival of the cortege, or be seated in the chapel before the coffin is carried in. Alternatively, there may be a service in church or other venue prior to the burial. The service typically lasts around 30 to 60 minutes and can include a number of hymns or songs, eulogies and readings. Following the funeral service the committal service usually takes place at the graveside with the minister or officiant conducting the service. Mears Family Funerals can help you at every step of the funeral and burial arrangements so please get in touch about any aspects or queries you may have.
