Mears Family Funerals and Mears & Jackson, part of the Steven Mears Group of companies, have taken delivery of a new fleet of hybrid ceremonial vehicles. Mears Family Funerals, which serves communities in South-East London and north Kent from its seven branches took delivery of two hearses and two limousines at its Care Centre at London Biggin Hill Airport. Group CEO, Steven Mears, was handed the keys by Coleman Milne Area Sales Manager, Stacey Moore, together with Mears Family Funerals Managing Director, Lisa McDermott.

"These new vehicles represent not only a significant investment in the service we deliver to our families, it also demonstrates the group-wide commitment to reducing our impact on the environment through the use of the latest hybrid technology."

Steven Mears, Group CEO

The Steven Mears Group new fleet of ceremonial vehicles, which comprises three hybrid traditional-style hearses and three hybrid six-seater limousines, significantly reduces its carbon footprint through lower emissions when compared to its old diesel powered fleet.

The new fleet is fitted with hybrid drive train technology which combines a petrol engine, electric motor and lithium-ion battery. On the majority of journeys that Mears Family Funerals and Mears & Jackson make, an electric motor will deliver a whisper-quiet, clean and efficient ride, with a regenerative braking system that charges the battery by capturing up to 90% of the energy normally lost when braking.
